Objectives:

a result of attending these sessions, participants
should be able to use current clinical recommendations,
based on best evidence, to more competently:

- Evaluate
hypertension.
- Select
the appropriate antihypertensive medications
to achieve BP goals for patients.
- Evaluate
the patient with chronic or daily headache.
- Implement
new non-pharmacologic strategies for the
patient with headache.
- Select
the appropriate pharmacologic treatment
for migraine headache.
- Evaluate
and manage the patient with peripheral neuropathy.
- Integrate
chronic pain assessment into daily practice.
- Manage
chronic pain in the context of other common
co-morbid disorders.
- Differentiate
fibromyalgia from similar conditions and
common co-morbidities.
- Balance
clinical and risk management considerations
for patients with chronic musculoskeletal
pain.
- Assess
and diagnose pain and co-morbid conditions
in the older patient.
- mplement
safe and effective treatment regimens for
the older patient.
- Diagnose
and treat common movement disorders.
- Evaluate
and manage the patient with urinary incontinence.
- Evaluate
and manage the patient with hematuria/kidney
stones.
- Evaluate
and manage the patient with erectile dysfunction.
- Evaluate
and manage the patient with a prostate disorder.

| Purpose
Statement: |
| The
purpose of this activity is to enhance physicians'
competence in the ACGME/ABMS competency areas.
This activity includes an update on the recent
advances made in the clinical management of
the most common disorders seen in the practice
of family medicine. |

Audience: |
| This
course is designed for family medicine physicians
and others interested in family medicine. |
| Educational
Format: |
| The
format for this course consists of 45-minute
lectures, each followed by a 15-minute question
and answer period in which participants will
also be encouraged to discuss with faculty potential
barriers to implementation of new practice strategies.
The sessions are designed to facilitate exchange
of information and dialogue between presenting
faculty and participants. |
