anesthesiologists and certified nurse anesthetists. |
| Educational
Objectives: |
After
attending this course, participants should be able to:
-Describe the pharmacology of agents commonly used for
the treatment of pain.
-Discuss the perioperative myocardial ischemia/infarction.
-Illustrate the physiology of pain transduction, transmission,
modulation, and perception.
-Compare anesthesia for AAA (open, endovascular and
laparoscopic).
-Conduct a preoperative cardiac evaluation prior to
non-cardiac surgery.
-Review anatomy and topographical landmarks important
to the anesthesiologist treating pain.
-Describe potential positioning injuries during anesthesia.
-Examine obesity and sleep apnea.
-Discuss issues relating to the legal prescribing of
opioids for the treatment of pain.
-Relate the changes in pulmonary mechanics in the injured
lung; the limitations of the conventional mechanical
ventilator; patient/ventilator interactions, and discuss
alternative ventilatory methods, including tracheal
gas insufflation, High Frequency Oscillation and partial
liquid ventilation.
-Explain the application of HFO ventilation to the injured
lung; the methods of exchange in HFO; its limitations
and physiology.
-Describe responsibilities of anesthesia providers in
instructing primary airway management/sedation skills
to non-anesthesia providers.
-Define oxidative stress and antioxidants and describe
the use of antioxidants as an adjunct to therapy in
critical illness.
-Describe methods for the prevention of common errors
in anesthesiology.
-Examine the use of ketamine for anesthesia and conscious
sedation.
-Describe the pathophysiology of brain injury; the fundamentals
of management of the injured brain; and the advances
in therapy of the injured brain. |
